A Brief History of the World App Reviews

First class, fast moving game.

A delight to play!

Great Game

Although most electronic board games arent very amusing this one is a lot of fun. Its not one of those over done games either. It is mostly basic and easy to play. I would certainly recommend anyone interested to get the app.

Excellent implementation

30+ year boardgamer, heavy iOS user. Played only on iPad Air, with no problems (other than Game Center which seems to never report turns correctly, however is suspect that is Apples issue). Really enjoyed this one, fast, great async play, an interesting set of decisions each turn. Easily 25+ hours of play online for me, with no issues. A few of the special powers seemed strange, but after a while of play I figured out everything fine and grokked the interface. Considering the return for the developer on a niche title like this, Id say there is little to complain about if you have a hobby tabletop perspective and come at this looking for that kind of feel and experience. In fact this is as well done as Puerto Rico, La Havre, Tigris, Tikal, etc. Multiplayer even better than those, mostly because of the design of the board game itself however. Non-hobby gamers might gripe about the interface here or there, but this is really a great boardgame, and I am grateful we even have these on iOS. They will never make anyone a lot of money on iOS or in physical form (a best selling physical boardgame might sell 5,000 copies!), so considering they are mostly a labor of love, Im very happy. Serious designer/euro/German-style/hobby gamers will find this to be a strong offering.

Replayable board game

A few small quirky bugs mar an otherwise enjoyable, engrossing game. Intelligent AI.

Fun game.

Too many confirmations required, but still a fun game. Loses one star for bugs.

Excellent App!

I love that hobby board games are getting such awesome representations in digital format. This is not the classic HotW, if you played the original Avalon Hill game - this is essentially the second edition of that game, and it is great! If you played the old board game, or are looking for a game like Risk with more strategic depth, check this out!

Bug in tutorial makes it impossible to play

Only a few steps into the tutorial (after choosing the initial cards) I get a message screen that wont go away—therefore unable to continue the game. Bug. Why did I spend money on this...

Maybe it would be a good game

But lots of pieces of the game dont work, you can easily get into a state where the UI freezes, the tutorial cant be completed, and text renders outside the viewable area on an iPhone 6 plus. Skip it.

Glitchy, but great!

This is a great game, and well worth a few dollars. It has a nice feel of escalation, and it is overall an enjoyable area control game. I like the twist of choosing a different empire every round, in addition to the events. Despite the great game, it is a bit glitchy. For example, if you click the undo buttons at certain times, it will skip your turn. This is very irritating, and if it wasnt for this, this would be a 5 star app. Very fun!

Fix bug plz

Play on ipad2 mini, cant end turn during tutorial....dont know how to move on. Click player name always jump to app page.....

Great game

Very faithful to the board game. Highly recommended.

Fun strategy game, Defects in online game

After playing this game for 10 hours over 2 weeks, I reached a point where I could win against the AI about 80% of the time. Game beat me relentlessly early on, but perseverance gives you insight into the strategies it takes to beat the AI. Other reviews have noted how much longer a game can take for each AI player you add. Once I became adept, adding new AI players quit adding challenge to the game. Game Center found me an opponent online. The first two rounds with my opponent went well, but it was taking us two days to play a round, probably because of time zone differences. On the third round it looks like the game doubled my online opponents number of soldiers, probably giving them the game. I took one star off for this defect. At the beginning of the next round we picked our cards, and then the game locked up. It confused one of the computer players with an online player. Since the computer players turn is automatic, I believe the move should have taken place on my computer. The game says it is waiting for the opponent to move ... I am not sure if this is simply bad distributed programming, or if the human opponent had tried to hack the game, confusing the logic. Buy this game if you like strategy conquest games using cards and dice. As the five star reviews point out this is based on a fun game. I am frustrated because I have gotten better than the AI players. Based on the price this is a good single player game. I wanted to play it socially.

Broken tutorial

I cant play this game because the tutorial is broken. I have tried to go through the tutorial multiple times and it continues to stop at the same location early in the tutorial every time. I have closed and reopened the app. Just doesnt work. Please fix this.

Great
